Our travels have taken us to the Hill Country of Texas. We stopped at Waco to check off Magnolia from our bucket list. We had a nice campsite with a great view of Lake Waco. Of course our first night was windy and cold, cause that seems to be our MO when we switch places. We got to Magnolia Table by 9:45 on a Monday morning and didn’t have to wait at all. I am guessing from the looks of things around there that is not typical. It was delicious and the boys cleaned their plates. They are getting so good at sitting and eating in restaurants it is so nice. Luke says in a head to head biscuit competition between The Pioneer Woman and Joanna Gains he has to give the win to Ree. But I think that is as it should be, she did build her empire on food not design. But the French Toast at Magnolia was unbelievable, I highly recommend it.

We also visited the Silos and went to the Market and of course had to try a cupcake from the bakery. Although, instead of waiting in the crazy line at the bakery we just walked right up to the food truck from the bakery that had exactly what we wanted anyway. Ain’t no body got time to wait in those kinds of lines with three little boys. Also, no one has time to enjoy any kind of store with interesting fragile items with three little boys. I did not get to walk around and enjoy the silos as one might have hoped due to the crazy that dawdles in opposite directions around us.

Tucker and Max have been asking at every single new campsite we go to if they can go swimming. It finally hit 80 degrees and we were 100 yards from a lake so we finally gave in. It was freezing, the water was cold and the wind was not hot by any stretch of the imagination, but that doesn’t stop the Peterson boys. Thankfully Zac was napping so we only had to clean up two very muddy boys who rolled in the mud more than they swam, um that is because it is DECEMBER, crazy kids.

We packed up and headed to Georgetown which is just north of Austin. When Luke and I got married we had this crazy idea that we would buy a 5th wheel and move to Georgetown and flip houses. Obviously that didn’t happen, (although we probably should have since it was in 2005 and the market was perfect before the crash, but oh well). So we wanted to make a special stop just to bring our crazy dream full circle. We didn’t do much but slowed down and enjoyed our view of Lake Georgetown. We took a long walk around the lake and of course spent a shocking amount of time throwing rocks in the water. I am starting to sense a theme. The Huffy stayed strapped to the Jeep for that stay as it was pretty chilly especially in the wind.

After Georgetown we headed to Austin. We made a couple good foodie stops that did not disappoint. We hit up Velvet Taco and it did not disappoint. Look it up, there are like 5 around the country and I cannot recommend it enough. My sister and Bro-in-law took us to the one in Houston when Tucker was 16 months old and I was 35 weeks pregnant with Max. I had the Buffalo Chicken taco and have been thinking about it ever since. It is amazing, so now I will continue to think about it until we meet again. I hope it is sooner than 4 years this time. We also stopped at an Ice Cream shop called Jeni’s. It was AMAZING! Originally from Ohio and only open for 3 weeks here in Texas. Some of the best ice cream I have ever had, amazing flavors.

We also got a chance to hang out with some sweet friends, Gordy and Michelle and their two kids most of the day on Saturday. It was awesome to just hang out and let the kids play and have great conversations. They let us do a ridiculous amount of laundry which will never be underestimated in what a huge blessing that is. They also introduced us to some amazing BBQ at The Salt Lick. Some of the best smoked Turkey and Sausages I have ever had. I would say we did the food scene in Austin as much justice as possible in our current company. We have discovered our favorite thing to do with friends that we get to stop and see is just sit in their homes and catch up. Being still and letting the kids just play is so refreshing and relaxing. So thank you to all of our friends who have opened their homes and laundry machines to us. We are so thankful for your hospitality.

The RV park that we are staying in Austin has a nice heated pool with a hot tub. We have enjoyed it a couple times and has been the highlight of the trip for the boys I think. And the best part, no mud.

Tomorrow we pack up and start our journey home. We are flying back to Denver for two weeks for Christmas. We are leaving the RV at a friend’s house and switching our mode of transportation. It should be interesting as we have never flown with all three boys by ourselves. They are getting pretty hardy, unless they are tired, and we are in a tired stretch right now. So say a prayer for us as we fly on Tuesday.

I have mixed emotions going home this time. I have never been to Colorado and not had a home that was mine there. It is a very weird feeling and kinda messes with me if ponder it for too long. How weird is it that my home is on wheels and has no foundation. Like I said, best not to ponder it too long. It will be good to be back and not miss Christmas with the family, but it will be weird. I have another post brewing in my mind that has a little more depth to it than this one, but I will be 100% honest, I am so tired I can’t get it out of my head right now. Sleep deprivation is real right now mostly thanks to my sweet 5 year old who can’t seem to sleep through the night and insists on waking up the whole RV in the morning usually in the 5 o’clock hour. This is a very very small space. Lord Jesus please give us patience.

Live your Adventure,

Julie
