Well the last two days have not gone exactly as we had imagined. I say imagined because we didn’t really have a solid plan so it makes it easier not to stick to one.
We were planning to leave Tuesday but that was a pipe dream, so Wednesday morning it is. The plan was a flexible 9ish and we finally pulled out just before 1, awesome. We thought we could make our reservation in Salina in a 6 hour drive, ha ha ha, oh man, and we finally pulled in and got to bed by…11pm. Ouch, not a great way to start the trip. So we woke up tired and a little cranky and it is freezing outside. The boys are going bonkers and after a lovely bowl of oatmeal I pushed them out the door and said go find a playground (don’t worry Luke was with them). The RV has 3 modes, travel, sleep, and living. So I quick took it from living mode to travel mode, did the dishes and was ready to welcome them back in from the lovely 30 degree and windy playground, we are trying to make them hardy I guess.
Ok, so finally on the road again, it’s 11:30 and we are hungry already. It’s okay we only have 210 miles to do today, no big deal it will be quick. HAHAHAHA famous last words. Stopped for lunch before leaving town and it takes about 2 hours, mercy. Also in our travels on Wednesday we discovered some issues in our towing set up. Since it was just a quick drive 😉 we decided I would just drive the Jeep and we would divide and conquer. I would get groceries and Luke would drive slower in the RV and get gas and we would meet at the next RV park. Awesome, sounds like a great plan. Well let’s just say after 4 different gas stations between the two of us, an interesting stop at a podunk grocery store in Oklahoma (because it turns out not all Walmarts are Super WalMarts, smart Julie smart), two different RV parks, and dark country roads in a downpour of rain we finally made it. Kids screaming from being cooped up, hunger, wet diapers, and exhaustion, we were all done. But thankfully the Lord kept the two deer from hitting Tuck and I in the Jeep and just gave us something to be thankful for, a close call. Hurry eat a quick bite and get to bed. What’s another day without showers for the boys, there is always tomorrow. We did better, only 8:30 tonight instead of 11, woof.
Highlights of the day include a great BBQ place in Salina that came highly recommend from our friend back home and did not disappoint, everyone is healthy and safe and currently sleeping (besides me, or maybe I am sleep typing) and we get to check off some bucket list items tomorrow and not drive the RV anywhere. And just think of all the things we learned yesterday and today that we hopefully won’t repeat and we will get better at this. I am pretty sure God is kinda snickering at us at this point because I think he has a sense of humor. But through it all I know He is with us and will continue to lead, we just have to listen and follow. Stay tuned…
Live your Adventure,
Julie
